Description

Lydia Lunch & Terry Edwards - Memory and Madness

MEMORYandMADNESS was performed once only by Lydia Lunch, America's most out-spoken wordsmith, and Terry Edwards, England's most out-of-left-field musician. Thankfully the performance was documented for this release,

The CD was recorded in June 2003 before a sell-out audience at Fierce, the internationally renowned festival of words and films held annually in Birmingham, England.

Instrumental, Bitter Champagne, atmospherically sets the tone before Lydia introduces the main body of the set with The Root of Hysteria and closing with Wretched Possibility. This is not easy listening.

The subject matter of this psycho-ambient ‘illustrated’ spoken word album is less concerned with world politics than Lunch & Edwards' recent collaborations, and far more rooted in personal relationships. Very personal - the discomfort the audience was in during MEMORYandMADNESS is palpable.

The CD was produced by Terry Edwards from desk recordings and live audience recordings made by Dave Knight of Shock Headed Peters
