Description
The Higsons - Attack Of The Cannibal Zombie Businessmen
Originally released on CD by Mixture in 1992, Attack of the cannibal zombie businessmen features the A & B sides of four singles plus six 'posthumous' titles
The Higsons were at the vanguard of the early 80s punk-funk scene alongside bands such as Pigbag, ABC and Maximum Joy
Fronted by Fast Show mastermind Charlie Higson (known then as Switch) and accompanied by left-field music supremo Terry Edwards, the band had a succession of top-ten hits in the UK Indie Charts on a succession of indie labels.
The early singles I don't want to live with monkeys, Got to let this heat out and Conspiracy - aka Who stole my bongos? - were lavishly championed by John Peel who booked the band no less than 5 times for Radio One sessions
The Higsons tried to emulate the chart success of their version of Music to watch girls by (available on The Curse of the Higsons - REFIT 006LPT) with a cover of the Buddy Miles classic Them Changes. Record label bosses at R4 favoured the self-penned Take it, which proved to be their last single release
Other band members included Simon Charterton of Nitwood & Zook, and Dave Cummings whose post-Higsons career involved Del Amitri and Lloyd Cole. Session players on the CD include Frog (from Farmers' Boys, Julian Cope, Strawberry Switchblade etc) and Ian R Watson.
